A message from
Mr. Hodges

Dear Parents,

It is my hope that everyone enjoyed the winter break and had time to relax with family and friends. Flora Ridge staff welcomes everyone back and wishes all of you a Happy New Year! This is a great time to talk to your children about goal setting and creating plans on achieving those goals. Encourage your children to reflect on their progress and make adjustments where needed.

Look for those second quarter report cards on Friday, January 25. Our third quarter is already underway and with that I’d like to provide each of you with strategies on how you can help your child be successful from home.

  1. Create an environment in your home that encourages learning; turn off the TV and any other distracting noise, provide a place to sit that is comfortable and productive for working.
  2. Provide your child with a well-balanced schedule; routines for sleep, time limits on technology, fresh air, exercise and specific times for a focus on school work.
  3. Encourage reading; articles, recipes, poetry, stories, real-world events, signs, captions, words, letters…anything! 75% of what they learn will come from text. The more they read the better their reading skills will become.
  4. Show your children how to be organized. Organized children find it much easier to succeed in school.

Grades 3-5 take their annual state assessments beginning in early April.  I want to emphasize the importance of attending school each day and the significance it has on your child’s success.  We want our students to have every opportunity to learn, but they need to be in school to take advantage of the daily, ongoing instruction given in the classroom.

Your support throughout the first half of the year has been instrumental in the success of your child.  I want to thank you for the commitment you have made to your child’s education and their journey as a student.

Once again, thank you for all that you do to support your child and our school’s mission to provide the best education for all.

Sincerely,

Pete Hodges
Principal
